Immediately following his statements, in week 3 of the 2017 NFL season, over 200 players either sat or knelt during the national anthem. This was the largest number of protests in a given day to date.
The first game of NFL Sunday was played in London between the Ravens and Jaguars, where 27 players knelt during the anthem. The players then stood up when the British national anthem played. Even the owner of the Jaguars, Shahid Khan, who is the only non-white owner in the league, linked arms with his players in solidarity.
