Aussies Down Team USA In Exhibition Game

Jonathan Grant | August 24th, 2019

Despite Team USA not taking anywhere near a full-strength team with them to the FIBA Basketball World Cup, it’s expected that they will win the title. But, if a team was going to dethrone the Americans, many feel it would be hosts Australia.

In the second of two exhibition games ahead of the beginning of the tournament, the Aussies did just that on Friday to earn their first win over the ‘Dream Team.’ With the World Cup starting in only a week, the USA fell 98-94 to break a run of 30 games without a victory over their bigger, more prestigious foes. On top of that, it’s the first time in 78 games the Americans had lost at all since 2006. Patty Mills was the star of the day, with the Spurs guard scoring 30 points to help lead his nation back from a ten-point deficit. Kemba Walker led the USA with 22 points in Melbourne.
