Without risking sounding cynical, it’s hard to imagine why her competitors even bother to show up anymore, such is the dominance of Simone Biles in the world of gymnastics.
She proved once again this weekend that she was by far the best thing the United States has going, and likely the world, too, as she won her sixth all-around title at the US Gymnastics Championships on Sunday. And she did so by winning by more than five points overall, beating out Sunisa Lee and Grace McCallum. The names around her change, but she stays the same: downright dominant. She won the balance beam, vault, and floor exercise routines, while finishing third in the uneven bars, which she considers he weakness. Lee, the aforementioned runner-up took home the gold in that part of the competition.
