The Chicago Cubs are reeling in both the NL Central and Wild Card battles now after the St. Louis Cardinals handed them their fifth consecutive loss on Saturday afternoon. The division leaders were in no mood to be charitable, coming from behind to win 9-8 on back-to-back home runs and causing Craig Kimbrel to blow the save.
It was Yadier Molina who hit the homer that tied the game, and it was then Paul DeJong that hit the next to give them what would be the winning run. The Cardinals still have a magic number of five, as they have a three-game lead over the Brewers, but they are inching closer to winning the division. The Cubbies, however, are six games behind the Cardinals in the Central and three games off the Brew Crew in the Wild Card race, giving them approximately a nine percent chance of going to the postseason at this stage.
