Cardinals Take Thompson In Supplemental

The Arizona Cardinals took the lone pick of the 2019 NFL Supplemental Draft on Wednesday, and with it they selected Jalen Thompson, a safety out of Washington State. The selection means that the Cardinals will forgo their fifth round pick in next year’s draft, a consequence of making the decision to bring in the junior.

The reason for the Supplemental Draft to take place is to give players who had been ruled ineligible to return to the field in college by the NCAA a chance to go somewhere and play professionally. The NCAA had just ruled he would not be able to play in his senior season, meaning he was given the opportunity to move up immediately. In the last two seasons, he made 140 tackles and had six interceptions total.
