The PGA Championship is off to a (early) flying start at Bethpage Black. The man atop the leaderboard’s name should come as no surprise, either, as it is indeed Brooks Koepka, the defending winner of the event. For a second consecutive year, he has begun the week with an impressive 63, tying the all-time majors record for lowest score and also setting the course record in the process of it all.
Only one other man could keep it close on the round, and that was Danny Lee, who only trails him by one single shot after carding a 64. Koepka didn’t bogey any of the holes, making seven birdies along the way. He is three full shots ahead of Tommy Fleetwood. Masters winner Tiger Woods shot a 72, putting him nine strokes off the pace in a disappointing opening round for him.
