In what has been one of the biggest scandals in sports history, former Team USA women’s gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar was just sentenced to 175 years in prison for sexually abusing hundreds of gymnasts.
The father, Randall Margraves, was a father of three gymnasts who were abused by Nassar, two of which testified in court against him and gave first hand accounts of what he did.
In a sentence hearing on Friday, the father asked the judge for “five minutes alone” with the man. When the judge refused, he asked for only one minute. When he was denied, he took matters into his own hands and charges after Nassar who was shielded by his lawyer along with many other law enforcement officers in the courtroom.
“I would ask you to, as part of this sentencing, to grant me five minutes in a locked room with this demon,” Margraves said to Cunningham. “Would you do that? Yes or no.”
“No, sir, I can’t do that,” the judge said.
“Would you give me one minute?” Margraves asked.
“You know that I can’t do that,” Cunningham said. “That’s not how our legal system–”
This is one of many moving acts taken by members involved in this case against Nassar and the hearing is continuing this week. Thus, this is most likely only the beginning of a fight back against Nassar.
