When new quarterback Nick Foles, acquired over the summer, went down injured, it was a case of “here we go again” for the Jacksonville Jaguars. However, backup Gardner Minshew has a little something to say about it. He showed that on Thursday Night Football as he threw for two touchdowns in a 20-7 victory over the Tennessee Titans that puts both teams at 1-2 on the season.
Overall, he was solid at 20-30 for 204 yards with those aforementioned touchdowns, but it was his defense that really stood out. They would allow 304 yards in the air from Marcus Mariota, but they gave up hardly anything on the run and nothing very long as they ground out what has historically been an offense that has these kinds of struggles on a rough night weather-wise. It was tough on Mariota, though, as he was sacked nine times. It’s hard to be very productive when you are fearful of your life being taken away, after all. Three of those came from Calais Campbell. The win keeps the Jags in it, even if they don’t seem to be a major contender in the AFC South at this stage of the season.
