Rafa Nadal was simply not going to be denied on Wednesday night at the US Open. He didn’t make it easy on himself against Diego Schwartzman, but in the end he did get the job done with a 6-4, 7-5, 6-2 win in the quarterfinals.
The match ended up, however, taking over two hours (in the first two sets alone) due to Nadal’s inability to close it out. The Spaniard had been up 4-0 in the first set before his opponent came back to make it tougher than it needed to be and then had been up as much as 5-1 in the second before needing additional time to seal it up. Regardless, the Spaniard will now face a semi-final clash with 23 year-old Italian Matteo Berrettini. The other semi is super intriguing with villain Daniil Medvedev taking on non-seeded Grigor Dimitrov, the man who defeated an ailing Roger Federer in the quarters.
