Zion Williamson isn’t headed to New York or Los Angeles. At least for now, that is. In fact, he could well end up in New Orleans after the Pelicans defied the odds and landed the #1 pick in this year’s NBA Draft. Coming into Tuesday night’s Lottery, the Pelicans had just a six percent chance of landing the pick. However, they overcame the likes of ‘bigger’ teams, in this regard, to get what surely will be Williamson.
Just in this pick alone, the league will change for generations. Williamson could well alter the decision of Anthony Davis, who had declared he wanted to leave. Even if not, they will have a player to build their team around, while still getting a lot of value from a potential Davis trade. This is not the only team that is going to be changed, either, with the Memphis Grizzlies and Knicks, at picks two and three, should also get major stars to end up on their teams for years to come. The Lakers even landed at #4, so if they should entice the Pelicans into a deal for Davis, they will have that strong piece to add to the puzzle.
