The Tampa Bay Rays may not have what it takes to capture the AL East ahead of the New York Yankees this season, but that doesn’t mean they are out of the playoff picture by any means. They showed just why they are one of MLB’s best on Tuesday night as they never gave up against the Toronto Blue Jays at home.
Having made a poor start and falling behind 6-0 after four innings, the home team Rays wouldn’t just chip away little by little. Instead, they relied upon two-run home runs from Avisail Garcia, Willy Adames, and Austin Meadows to even up affairs. From there, the game went quiet until extras, when they would walk it off in bizarre fashion as Kevin Kiermaier scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the tenth with two outs. That makes the Rays 8-2 over the course of their last ten games, while keeping them half a game ahead of Oakland for the second and final Wild Card spot in the American League.
