Pekka Rinne is known for being one of the top goaltenders in the NHL. But on Thursday night, the Finnish goalie made history of a different kind in helping his team to a 5-2 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks on the road.
The Nashville Predators man fired into an open net with the score at 4-2 and only seconds remaining to become just the 12th goalie to have scored a goal in the long history of the league. Overall, it was the 15th time a goalie had scored a goal. Rinne had made 29 saves in the game beforehand, helping his team hold on to a ‘W.’
