LAFC came into Friday night’s first LA derby of the season- dubbed ‘El Trafico’- having never beaten the LA Galaxy before. They got off to the ideal start, however, as Carlos Vela scored a penalty kick after just four minutes to give them a 1-0 lead. It was his 20th goal of the MLS season, making him the fastest man to ever reach that lofty number. But, as is typically the case, the man known as Zlatan Ibrahimovic had something to say.
Less than four minutes later, he had scored one of his trademark outlandish goals. He would then grab two more in the second half, in the span of 14 minutes, to complete his hat trick and hand the Galaxy a 3-1 lead. Vela scored a second deep into stoppage time as LAFC, who have now only lost three times in 21 matches, fell to a defeat. With the victory, the Galaxy rose to second place in the Western Conference, though they are still nine points off their rivals’ pace.
