Barcelona are one of the top clubs in the world of European, and world, soccer, and as such, they don’t really find themselves firing a manager all that often. That is what took place on Monday, though, as news came out that they had given Ernesto Valverde the sack after about two and half years. This is the first time they have let go of a coach in this manner in 17 years.
This comes after they failed to win four of their last five games, with a loss to Atletico Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup the most recent, but it is being viewed as harsh by many seeing as how they are in first in Spain’s La Liga and made the Champions League knockout rounds. Quique Setien has taken over now on an apparent two and a half year deal, so the club moved on quickly with their decision.
