Big 12 Chances CFP Hurt As OK State Loses

The chances of seeing a team come out of the Big 12 and make it to the College Football Playoff were pretty slim, truth be told, heading into Saturday. Coming out of it, however, those chances look to be at zero following the result of the Texas/Oklahoma State game. The Longhorns, who came into the affair in at a disappointing 3-2, came away with the upset win over the previously 4-0 #6 Cowboys by a score of 41-34 in overtime.

Sam Ehlinger’s toss to Joshua Moore was enough to win it for them in the first OT period, completing his third of the evening despite throwing for just 169 total yards. On the opposite side, the Cowboys got quite a performance from QB Spencer Sanders. He completed 27 of his 39 passes for exactly 400 yards and four touchdowns, but it was not quite enough to give them the win they needed to keep both their realistic hopes- and the hopes of the conference- alive. This result bolsters the likelihood of two teams from another conference being able to potentially make it to the final four, with Notre Dame and Clemson as well as Georgia and Alabama being contenders to do so from the ACC and SEC respectively.
