All one needs to do to sum up Friday night’s game at Fenway Park between the Toronto Blue Jays and Boston Red Sox is to watch what happened in the top of the third when Raimel Tapia came to the plate with the bases loaded. With all the ducks on the proverbial pond, the Jays outfielder popped up a routine ball to center field that somehow, some way, turned into an inside-the-park grand slam. That play right there was everything you needed to know about an historic night at the old ground as the Jays dished out a 28-5 beating. In addition to the four scored when Tapia hit the can of corn homer, they also scored three more in that inning.

In the fifth, they added 11 to the board, and they finished the game with a massive 29 hits as a team. The 28 runs is the most the Jays have ever gotten across the plate, and it’s also the most runs the Red Sox have ever conceded. Luis Gurriel had a great game individually, too, going 6-7 with five RBI’s and three runs. The Jays now have four straight wins and are 51-43. Elsewhere, the Los Angeles Dodgers ran their winning streak up to six games by defeating the San Francisco Giants 5-1 at home on Friday evening. The game was knotted up at one apiece into the bottom of the eighth when Cody Bellinger hit a grand slam that made all the difference. Finally, the Seattle Mariners’ recent run ended on Friday as they fell 5-2 to the Houston Astros at home. Jose Altuve and Yordan Alvarez hit homers and the winning run the M’s had coming in was snapped at 14 by their division rivals. The Astros have been rolling since the All-Star break and now have three wins in two days, showing just why they are not only the favorite in the AL West but also one of the big favorites to win the World Series as well.
