The Milwaukee Brewers are officially headed to the 2021 Major League Baseball postseason. It was going to happen; it was just a matter of time. The Brewers have been dominating the NL Central for most of the season, and while they still have a magic number of three before clinching that crown, they are in with at least a Wild Card place regardless of what happens now. They won on Saturday 6-4 over the Chicago Cubs thanks in large part to the bat of Manny Pina.
He hit two home runs in the contest while both Eduardo Escobar and Jace Peterson also chipped in with long balls of their own. It’s their fourth straight postseason berth, and you have to think they will have something to say once the playoffs get underway. Elsewhere, there was a huge game going on with NL Wild Card ramifications riding on it between the St. Louis Cardinals and the San Diego Padres. The Cardinals found a way to win despite being in a 2-0 hole from the fourth inning on. The Cards mounted their comeback in the eighth when Tommy Edman hit a sac fly to drive in a run prior to Tyler O’Neill’s two-run blast that put them up 2-3 in front of the home faithful. That made it seven consecutive wins for the Cardinals and it saw them increase their advantage in the race for the ‘road’ Wild Card slot to two games over the Reds. They are also up 2.5 on the Phillies as well as the Padres following the dramatic ‘W.’ It appears they have hit their stride at just the right time, and that could well see them face whichever team doesn’t win NL West.
