The Chicago Cubs are playing some great baseball right now. So good, in fact, that they swept the San Diego Padres on Wednesday afternoon at Wrigley Field. Having fallen behind 1-0 to their visitors, they roared back. Anthony Rizzo put the ball in play and forced an error to tie the game before his double gave them a 3-1 edge.
They tacked on three more in the bottom of the seventh, with a home run from Javier Baez giving them all the insurance they needed to take a 6-1 ‘W.’ That’s three wins in a row for the Cubbies and nine wins from their last ten outings. That run has their record at 32-23, good enough to top the NL Central by 1.5 games over St. Louis currently. The Padres, meanwhile, have lost four in a row and five of their last seven, seeing them fall a game behind the pace of the Giants in the National League West.
