The ‘Doc Rivers Bowl,’ if you will was far from disappointing on Thursday night when the Los Angeles Clippers, his new team, took on his former charges in the form of the Boston Celtics in Boston. Despite everyone getting their money’s worth (and then some) his team ultimately came up short, losing in double overtime by a score of 141-133.
A lot of people will assume that Kawhi Leonard and/or Paul George did not play, but that was not the case. It’s why this game was as great as it was (George’s four points notwithstanding, though, due to re-injuring his hamstring). In the end, it was Jayson Tatum that led all scoring, putting up 39. Marcus Smart added 31 of his own for the victors, as four of the five starters racked up 19+ points. The Clippers were led in the defeat by ‘Sweet’ Lou Williams’ 35 points off the bench. Mind you, he still made ‘just’ 14 of 33 shots from the field. Leonard finished up with 28. The Clippers’ bench is so deep that it’s no surprise to see them involved, even when George is clearly not up for it.
