CFB Week 8: Bama, Cincy, OK Hold On

Jonathan Grant | October 24th, 2021

Another week has passed in college football, and it can only be summed up by that all-too-familiar word: craziness. Chaos. That’s exactly what it was. Some teams barely hung on to keep their College Football Playoff hopes alive. Some weren’t so lucky to do so. The #4 Alabama Crimson Tide had a game on their hands at home to Tennessee for a half, but they ultimately pulled away in the second to win 52-24.

Bryce Young finished with 371 yards and two passing TD’s while running back Brian Robinson, Jr. scored three TD’s on the ground and racked up over 100 yards rushing. #2 Cincinnati also held on to their hopes as they narrowly escaped against 1-6 Navy by a score of 27-20. A late comeback attempt from the Midshipmen fell just short, and that keeps the Bearcats in the hunt. Oklahoma also stayed in the hunt by overcoming a previously 1-5 team. The #3 Sooners put up 21 points in the fourth as they clawed back from a 10-0 early deficit to the Jayhawks. #7 Penn State, already carrying a loss, had their hopes evaporate as they lost in nine overtimes to Illinois on Saturday. The 20-18 defeat leaves the team with two losses and showed that their offense needs serious work to be a legitimate contender. #8 Oklahoma State fell to Iowa State 24-21, Miami beat North Carolina State 31-30, and Wisconsin won over #25 Purdue 30-13 for the other upsets of the wild, wild day.
