After being defeated by Bayern Munich in last season’s Champions League Final, Paris Saint-Germain got its revenge on Tuesday night, eliminating the defending winners despite losing 0-1 at home on the evening. The Bavarians, without star striker Robert Lewandowski, did get a 40th-minute goal from Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, but they were simply not good enough at finishing off their chances to come back from the 2-3 hole they had made for themselves in the first meeting last Wednesday.
Now, it will be the team from Paris that will make it ways to the semi-finals, and it means Bayern will have no chance to defend their title. In the other quarterfinal of the day, it was much the same story as Chelsea also was beaten at ‘home’ by FC Porto yet advanced. Having won 0-2 in the first leg on Wednesday, they lost 0-1 this time. But that’s good enough for them, and they will look to improve when the next round comes along, seeing as how the Portuguese side is deemed to be one of the ‘weaker teams left.
