The Chicago Cubs, the team that was supposedly done, are the hottest team in baseball right now. They won their fourth straight on Thursday, taking down the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-3, keeping them a half-game behind St. Louis for first in the NL Central. Kris Bryant had a home run in the top of the first and another RBI later while Javier Baez drew the most bizarre error you’ll ever see to help them plate a pair of runs in the second inning.
The Cubs led 4-0 before the Pirates registered, and they did so with three home runs (two in the fourth and one in the seventh). It wasn’t enough for them, however, as they had spotted their visitors too much. The Cubs tacked on a run in the ninth and held them off via Ryan Tepera’s four-out save. That’s six losses in a row for the Pirates now, leaving them well behind, once again, in the division.
