Novak Djokovic is a step closer to making a massive bit of history at the US Open. Friday was a challenge for him against Alexander Zverev, but he got it done in five sets, outlasting his opponent to win 4-6, 6-2, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 in New York.
That makes it 27 wins in 27 attempts at the majors this year and means he will go into Sunday’s final with Danil Medvedev- looking for his first major crown- with an opportunity to become the first man since 1969 to win all four titles in a calendar year. Should he win, he’d also claim his 21st major, which would make him go above Federer and Nadal for the most. It will be Medvedev’s third major final after he won in straight sets (6-4, 7-5, 6-2) over Felix Auger-Aliassime. The women’s final will feature Emma Raducanu against Leylah Fernandez on Saturday.
