Novak Djokovic came into Sunday’s Australian Open final against Daniil Medvedev looking to exact his perfect streak in the finals of the Grand Slam tournament. He did just that, taking his ninth Aussie Open victory in nine tries in what was a fairly mundane and routine win.
He did lose five games in the first set, but he would only lose four more in the next two combined, easily coasting past his Russian counterpart 7-5, 6-2, 6-2. He’s never lost a semi-final on the hardcourt of the Aussie Open, either, such is his level of dominance in that environment. At one stage, Djokovic won 11 of 13 games, showing just how brutally dominant he truly was. In winning, he now has won six of the last ten majors and has 18 total major wins. Medvedev, who was in his second Slam final here, was denied what would have been his first title.
