Two of the premier young players in the NBA faced off head-to-head on Sunday, and when the dust had settled it was Luka Doncic’s Dallas Mavericks that prevailed over Ja Morant’s Memphis Grizzlies by a score of 104-91. Doncic was extremely impressive in this showdown in front of his home faithful, scoring 37 points and grabbing 11 rebounds while coming up just a single assist short of a triple-double.

Morant, too, was strong even in defeat by recording a double-double of his own with 35 points and 13 boards, but he ultimately didn’t do enough to help his team earn a victory on this particular occasion. Elsewhere, the Atlanta Hawks went on the road to take down the Charlotte Hornets and keep up their recent surge of form. Trae Young scored 30 points, nailing eight three-pointers along the way, in the 113-91 road win that handed Atlanta a fourth straight ‘W’ to bring their record up to 21-25. Just when it appeared that they wouldn’t be able to build on their surprise playoff run last year, it looks as if they have turned things around and might just be able to push themselves into the mix after all.
