There is taking over a game and then there is what Leon Draisaitl did for the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday night to take down the Ottawa Senators. Sure, the Senators are struggling as the last-placed team in the North division, but for one player to go out and score three goals and record two assists over the course of just one game is simply astounding. That’s what Draisaitl did as he helped lead the Oilers to a huge 7-1 victory.

By the time the first period had come to a close, he had scored once and assisted twice, giving his team a commanding 4-0 lead after just 20 minutes. He scored again in the second, on a second power play, and then it was topped off by a third in the third and final period. Connor McDavid, who had a goal and two assists, assisted him that time, with both players putting the puck through the legs of their opponents to set up a tremendous goal. It’s rare to see such a strong performance, but when you do it’s worthy of recognition.
