Duke, Kentucky Kick Off College B-Ball Season With Big Wins

Jonathan Grant | November 6th, 2019

Thanks to the State Farm Champions Classic, college basketball got off to a big start on Tuesday night as the #4 Duke Blue Devils downed the #3 Kansas Jayhawks and the #2 Kentucky Wildcats defeated the #1 Michigan State Spartans.

The night began with Duke edging out Kansas, doing so 68-66 in a game that was tight almost the entire way at Madison Square Garden. Tre Jones put up 15 for the Blue Devils, while Cassius Stanley came up clutch with 11 of his 13 in the second half to help them overcome the 17 scored by Kansas’ Devon Dotson. In the nightcap, it was Kentucky that came up trumps, doing so by a score of 69-62. The Wildcats went into the half time break up by ten points, and they never really looked back. Tyrese Maxey is already the talk of the town, with the freshman posting 26 points in the victory over ‘Sparty.’ Cassius Winston also had himself a fine showing in defeat, scoring 21 points in total. It will be interesting to see how the rankings change after this, though it’s not exactly all that meaningful this early into the season.
