Elliott Wins Martinsville To Advance, Harvick Eliminated

Jonathan Grant | November 2nd, 2020

The NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs are now down to just four drivers after this weekend’s dramatic race at Martinsville. The penultimate race sets the stage for Phoenix, where Chase Elliott, Brad Keselowski, Denny Hamlin, and Joey Logano will clash to be named the champ. Elliott got there by virtue of grabbing what proved to be a dominant win.

It was virtually a must-have for him as well, simply due to the way his points outlook was coming into the race. His win automatically locked him into the final four, while a win at Kansas had done the same for Logano. The other two, though, got in by the skin of their teeth on points, with both Keselowski and Hamlin overcoming Kevin Harvick on the last lap. Harvick, who had won nine races this season and was a favorite along with Hamlin to win it all, tried to wreck Kyle Busch on the final lap to make up the point he needed, but it did not work, causing him to be eliminated in shocking fashion after a poor Round of 8. Next week’s highest finisher between the four Playoff drivers will be crowned the 2020 champion.
