Tony Finau is finally a winner again on the PGA Tour. After over five years and 142 starts of trying since his last win, he got the job done in a truly amazing way. Many had come to believe he wasn’t good in the clutch, but he dispelled that rumor with his stunning performance at the Northern Trust in New York on Monday in the final round.
Trailing big to Spanish #1 Jon Rahm, Finau shot a 30 on the back nine to haul him down and force his way into a playoff with Cameron Smith. Once there, he got the job done, something he had three times failed to do in a playoff, knocking another big elephant off his proverbial back. Finau put himself in much better position to win the FedexCup Playoffs with the win, and he nearly made his spot on the American Ryder Cup team a certainty as well with the win.
