After years and years of being the main man in Atlanta, the Braves’ Freddie Freeman finally landed the National League MVP on Thursday. The first baseman received 28 of the 30 votes, easily trouncing both Mookie Betts and Manny Machado in the process. His 2020 season, which began with him coming down with Covid-19, ended with him posting a .313 average and hitting 13 home runs while driving in 53 RBIs in a 60-game prorated campaign.

He also wielded a hefty glove, and he helped the Braves get to Game 7 of the NLCS before being dumped out by the Dodgers. Meanwhile, in the American League, it was Jose Abreu of the Chicago White Sox that took home MVP honors. Abreu picked up 21 of the 30 first-place votes, seeing off Jose Ramirez and DJ LeMahieu for the crown. Abreu led the AL with 60 RBI’s and also had 19 homers in a season in which he hit .317. He is also a first baseman, making this the first time in a long time one had grabbed the award.
