Goodell Says NFL Will Play Full Season, First Player Opts Out

Jonathan Grant | July 25th, 2020

Roger Goodell is never one to let a moment go without making some sort of a splash. The NFL is always making headlines, regardless of the time of year, and that kept up on Friday when he made it very clear that the league will begin training camps on time just as they had planned and that they will indeed play a full season.

CNN Brasil

He asserted that both the NFL and the NFLPA had made agreements to see to it that those things would come true. There has been a lot of ‘give and take,’ as well to get here, with the league eliminating all preseason games. They have also given players the option to opt out for the 2020 season. If they do so, they will collect $150,000 (that amount nearly doubles if they are considered to be ‘high risk’ and choose to sit out). One player that will do this is Kansas City Chiefs guard Laurent Duvernay-Tardif. He is a doctor, believe it or not, and he has chosen to remain on his post during the pandemic in Montreal to take care of patients. While not everyone deserves to be applauded for their decision to sit out or not, it certainly merits him getting as much praise as possible as he makes this decision to help his fellow men and women rather than play. Well done, Doc!
