The American League All-Stars just keep piling up the wins in the MLB All-Star Game. Tuesday night was their eighth straight win over the National League, and it was propelled by game MVP Vlad Guerrero, Jr.’s outstanding performance. The second-generation had the game’s highlight when he smashed a solo home run 468 feet to give the AL a 2-0 lead in the top of the third. Prior to that, Marcus Semien’s infield single had driven in Aaron Judge.
Guerrero, Jr. then grounded out in the top of the fifth to drive a second run in, effectively sealing his MVP award win. Xander Bogaerts singled later in the same frame to make it 4-0 to the AL before JT Realmuto hit a solo blast of his own to get the NL on the board later in the same inning. Mike Zunino, however, hit another one-run shot in the top of the sixth to restore the three-run lead. The scoring in Denver was completed in the bottom of the sixth when Manny Machado scored on a passed ball. The 5-2 result saw Shohei Ohtani, the starting AL pitcher, pick up the win, Corbin Burnes the loss, and the save went to Liam Hendricks.
