Heisman Candidates Named: Alabama Have Two Finalists

Jonathan Grant | December 25th, 2020

It’s been a wild, wild year in the land of college football in 2020, and we still have a couple more weeks to go. Before we finish up, though, the Heisman trophy still has to be awarded to someone. We found out the four contenders for that crown on Thursday, with Alabama taking two of the finalists. The Tide will have both quarterback Mac Jones and wide receiver DeVonta Smith on the stage, while Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence and Florida QB Kyle Trask will be joining them. Unlike last year’s event, there is no prohibitive favorite. Of course, Joe Burrow was favored a year ago and he easily won.

Roll ‘Bama Roll

Smith leads the country with receptions (98) and receiving yards with 1,511 as well as having caught 17 touchdowns. Jones has led the Crimson Tide to an unbeaten regular season and has looked totally in control while doing so. Lawrence, as many already know, has done that when he’s been on the field as well. He missed a loss to Notre Dame, but he led them to a dominant 34-10 win last Saturday. And finally we have Trask, who led the Gators to an 8-3 season. He set the Florida record for most yards in the air- 4,125- and averaged 375 yards passing per game. Najee Harris, also of Alabama, finished fifth in the voting, showing Bama’s continued dominance of college football even more.
