This is what happens when you reward mediocrity and sheer incompetence, it must be said. The NFL gives the best draft picks to the worst teams, so when the season approaches its end, some teams are playing for playoff spots and others are playing for better picks. Essentially, some want to lose. While we can’t know for certain, that definitely seemed to be the case on Sunday Night Football this week for the Philadelphia Eagles.
They pulled out starters in the fourth quarter as they were in a three-point game against Washington, allowing the ‘Football Team’ to win and clinch the NFC East. In doing so, they ended the hopes of Joe Judge and his New York Giants of reaching the playoffs. And, of course, Judge is not too happy about it. Judge, the Giants head coach, accused the Eagles of not respecting the game and stated his team would never do that, particularly in a pandemic-ridden season where so much sacrifice had to be made to play a game. Even with the approach, though, it must be said that the NFC East was awful and that they had plenty of chances to make their way in.
