The Los Angeles Lakers officially have their first win of the 2021-22 NBA season after three attempts. They got it on Sunday after a 121-118 win over the Memphis Grizzlies, and they got it despite a valiant effort from Ja Morant. The guard scored 40 points and dished out ten assists in yet another fine performance, but it was just not quite enough as Carmelo Anthony led the purple and gold with 28 points in 28 minutes off the bench.
Russell Westbrook had 13 points and 13 assists to his name while Anthony Davis and LeBron James each got close to the 20-point mark. In other action, the Golden State Warriors made it three wins out of three with a 119-107 victory over the Sacramento Kings. Steph Curry notched his 5000th career assist and scored 27 points (while dishing out ten assists for a double-double) to lead the way while fellow guard Jordan Poole kicked in 22 points of his own. Sacramento, who fell to 1-2, were led by Harrison Barnes’ 24 in the loss.
