Quite simply put, Sunday was not the best of days for the Los Angeles Lakers. In addition to succumbing to a 122-105 defeat at the hands of the Denver Nuggets, they also might have to do without center Anthony Davis for a while due to injury. Sources are indicating that the big man has ‘aggravated tendinosis’ in his right Achilles, a prognosis that had held him out of games earlier last week. He missed the second half of the loss on Sunday as well due to it, and an MRI is now set to hopefully reveal the extent of the damage.
The Lakers’ loss meant that their six-game winning streak was snapped. A big part of the reason, besides Davis’ injury, was the fact that Nikola Jokic dominated. Some could make a case his triple-double happened as a result of Davis leaving the game, but that would be unfair on the Nuggets’ all-encompassing center. He had 23 points, 16 rebounds, and ten assists for his sixth triple-double of the season thus far. Jamal Murray led all scorers on the day by kicking in with 25. LeBron James led the Lakers with 22 in the defeat, just the team’s third on the road so far.
