Lakers Take Big Step Toward Western Finals

Jonathan Grant | September 11th, 2020

There was so much going on in the world of sports on Thursday. For the first time in American sports history, there were six professional leagues running at once. Despite that, and the start of the NFL, the biggest game of the night, in terms of importance, at least, was in the NBA as the Los Angeles Lakers took on the Houston Rockets in Game 4 of the Western Conference semis.

The Lakers, having lost Game 1, have now won three straight following a 110-100 win that puts them in firm control of the series now. They’ll have three chances to lock it up, and you have to like their odds to do just that. Anthony Davis played a decisive role, scoring 29 points to lead all scorers. LeBron James, of course, also had a big evening, nearly coming up with a triple-double with 16 points, 15 rebounds, and nine assists to his name. The Rockets were led by James Harden, who had 25 points, but he’s been unable to score huge numbers in the series, and that now has them in severe trouble as they stare elimination right in the eye.
