The second half of Thursday night’s meeting between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Denver Nuggets was about as easy as it comes for the defending NBA champions. Having gone into the halftime break down 12, they easily overturned that with an emphatic third quarter run that saw them lead by eight. In the fourth, their foot remained on the gas, increasing the lead further as they went on to win 114-93 in the end.
LeBron James led the way for them, as he so often does, scoring 27 points, collecting ten rebounds, and dishing out ten assists in a strong triple-double performance. Dennis Shroder also stepped up in a big way with 21 points of his own. The Lakers’ defense, however, also needs to be commended, as they ‘won’ 46-18 down the stretch, disabling the Nuggets’ ability to do much of anything late in the going. At one stage in the third and fourth, they went on a 19-0 tear, underlining how good they were on both sides of the court- and how bad the Nuggets were. It was their 11th win in the last 14 games while the Nuggets lost for a second time in three outings following a five-game winning charge prior to that.
