The Tampa Bay Lightning didn’t start the Stanley Cup Finals in the way they would have wanted, falling behind 1-0 to the Dallas Stars after Game 1. But they have now won two in a row after Game 3 on Wednesday, putting them in the driver’s seat at two games to one now. The signs were good very early on for them as Nikita Kucherov capitalized on a guilt-edge opportunity to score five and half minutes into the game.
Steven Stamkos, their captain that just returned from injury, then added a second less than two minutes later to make it 2-0. The Stars did pull one back via Jason Dickinson while shorthanded, but three goals from Victor Hedman, Brayden Point, and Ondrej Palat in the second period saw them fall behind 5-1 heading into the third. They only mustered one in the final period, via Miro Heiskanen, and that has seen them go behind in the series. Hedman finished with the aforementioned goal and two assists, while Point and Kucherov also had a goal and an assist in the win.
