The Tampa Bay Lightning will be headed back home feeling very good about themselves and their chances of moving to the third round of the NHL’s playoffs. After two games in Carolina against the Hurricanes, they now have a 2-0 series lead, giving them an opportunity to close it out on home ice and avoid heading back to Carolina.
They took a 2-1 win over their hosts on Tuesday, with Alex Killorn scoring his fifth postseason goal in the second period to give them the edge. Anthony Cirelli tacked another on in the third period to make it 2-0, and only a late Andrei Svechnikov goal with 90 seconds left gave the Hurricanes any hope. Andrei Vasilevskiy was strong in net for the Lightning, making 31 saves on an evening where their opposition outshot them 32-15. Not bad to win on nights like that, is it?
