Liverpool Defeat Tottenham, Go Top Of EPL Table

Jonathan Grant | December 17th, 2020

Wednesday night was a big one at Anfield as defending English Premier League champions Liverpool took on Tottenham in a top-of-the-table clash. Coming into the game, Tottenham were on top of the standings via goal difference over the hosts, and they hoped to make a statement about their title credentials. After the match, though, it’s the same familiar look we got used to last year: Liverpool on top.

The Reds dominated the first half, getting a strange goal from Mo Salah in the 26th minute to take the lead. Visiting Spurs, against all momentum, managed to score seven minutes later and that took them into the break level. After the break, Tottenham were better than they had been in the first half, but not quite as good as Liverpool. Eventually Liverpool broke through, with Roberto Firmino thundering home a header in the 90th minute to hand Liverpool a 2-1 win that takes them three points clear of the table.
