Liverpool Smash Palace, Atalanta Stun Lazio

Jonathan Grant | June 25th, 2020

After an extremely boring draw away to Everton on Sunday, Liverpool turned on the style on Wednesday night to take themselves just a single result away from winning their first ever Premier League title. They simply blew away Crystal Palace on the evening, showing top form they had rarely shown just prior to the enforced break. Trent Alexander-Arnold scored a sublime free kick and Mo Salah made it 2-0 right before half-time.

This is Anfield

Fabinho’s rocket from 30+ yards and a Sadio Mane goal made it 4-0 at the final whistle in a game where Palace hardly got a sniff of the ball, particularly in the second half. Liverpool can clinch at Manchester City next Thursday, assuming that City don’t lose or draw on Thursday. Meanwhile in Italy, one of the games of the season was being played as surprise Serie A title contenders Lazio looked to keep pace with Juventus. They looked like they would do so as well, as they ran out to a 2-0 lead inside of 11 minutes. An own goal after five minutes and a fine strike from Sergej Milinkovic-Savic gave them a huge lead. But you can never count out Atalanta, a team that routinely scores three goals+ in games. Robin Gosens gave them hope before half-time, cutting it to 2-1. Then the sensational occurred as Ruslan Malinovskyi hammered in one of the finest goals you’ll ever see. They won it in the 80th minute via Jose Palomino, who latched onto a header from a corner. Lazio are now four points off the pace of Juventus, though 11 games still remain in the season.
