Mahomes, Chiefs Take Down Texans As NFL Opens

The NFL season is officially off and running, and it got off to quite a bang on Thursday night as defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City welcomed the Houston Texans to town. The Chiefs are widely expected to be a serious title contender once again this time around, and they did nothing to show otherwise as they put on a solid display to comfortably win 34-20 over their AFC rivals.

Of course, the looks were different given the pandemic, but one thing remained the same: Patrick Mahomes is still Patrick Mahomes. He might not have had his all-time best night in KC, but he had plenty about him, throwing for three touchdowns and 211 total yards on 24-32 through the air. Clyde Edwards-Helaire was also instrumental at running back, giving them tremendous versatility by supplying 138 yards rushing and a TD of his own. The second quarter is where they did the damage, scoring three 17 unanswered points to lead 17-7 at the break. They then scored TD’s in the next two quarters to take a huge lead into the fourth, and they ultimately held on to start out at 1-0 in their title defense.
