There is a lot of talk about big changes coming to the Boston Red Sox for next season. One of them, at least by the looks of things right this second, will not be with JD Martinez. The outfielder/designated hitter has decided to opt in with the team, meaning he will not look to go elsewhere via free agency.
This means that he can make over $60 million in the next three seasons, a great deal for a 32-year old that may have injury concerns eventually. He also will have the option to opt out after the next two seasons, so we will see how that turns out. There are rumors that the Sox are shopping Mookie Betts, among others, so it could be quite the enticing off season in New England.
