The Maryland Terrapins are 3-0 through the first three weeks of the 2021 college football season. It wasn’t pretty on Friday night against Illinois, but they got the job done, taking down their Big Ten rivals 20-17 thanks to a last-gasp field goal from 32 yards by Joseph Petrino. That had come about two minutes after a touchdown drive had been led by Taulia Tagovailoa, showing that the Terrapins were in catch-up mode just to have the opportunity to win it.
Tagovailoa finished with 350 yards passing and that crucial TD on 32-43 passing. Elsewhere, Louisville also picked up a win on Friday evening, downing UFC 42-35 on a stunning interception to win the game. There were 13 seconds left on the clock when Jaylin Alderman crossed the goal line for a 66-yard INT return. The Knights had been attempting to drive down the field and kick a game-winning field goal but were instead up-ended by the Cardinals in a dramatic fashion. QB Malik Cunningham had well over 300 all-purpose yards in the contest for them, racking up three total touchdowns in the win. Both teams are now 2-1 on the season.
