Major League Baseball made a big announcement on Tuesday, stating that Triple-A would not begin for at least a month more than what had previously been thought to be the case. That means, as of now at least, that the season will begin in May, though there are more than a few that believe that the delay might be drawn out even longer.
The reason for the delay is that teams prefer to have players close by at their alternative training facilities so that they can call them up to the main roster in a hurry. If they were with their traditional Triple-A teams, they would not have the luxury. With Covid-19 protocols still looming, this is a necessary albeit annoying decision. Both Double-A and Single-A are scheduled to get kicked off in May as of now, so hopefully Triple-A will be able to do the same.
