When Major League Baseball gets back on the field- or if they ever do- the game could look quite a bit different than what we are used to. We’ve heard talk of changing the playoff format to accommodate 16 of the 30 teams (do we really need this) and the use of a universal DH for the next two seasons, but there are other ideas being kicked about.
One of them is to change how tie games are approached. It’s been mooted by such luminaries as Stugotz that extra innings should have runners on second base to start the inning. Apparently, that is now being considered. On top of that, again reportedly, the subject of allowing players to re-enter a game has also been brought up. This might just amount to games that go into extra innings, but it would be rather interesting to see this allowed. It would likely be just for this season or the next, but it would be a landmark change in how the game is managed. Some are saying that ties will be a possibility, though that one seems a stretch much too far in all honesty.
