What looked impossible just a week or two is virtually settled. The return of Major League Baseball has been determined, and the games will be here before we even know it. After the owners elected to impose a 60-game season upon the players recently, the only two things to do were to get the players to sign off on a date to get ready to play and to also have them sign off on a waiver that basically holds the league harmless in lieu of the Coronavirus pandemic.
Unlike the rest of what has happened during the negotiations, that process moved extremely fast, allowing us to know the official date the players will be coming back: July 1st. This second spring training (what we’ll call summer training) won’t be as long as usual, but they will hope to have everyone fairly close to ready to go by the last week of July for games to begin. It’s being said that the playoff format will be the same we have seen for years now: 10 teams. Therefore, it’s truly going to be a sprint to the finish, and every game will mean something.
