MLS Is Back: DC, LAFC Comeback For Draws

The MLS Is Back Tournament, truth be told, got off to a bit of a slow start initially. Monday’s games, however, weren’t much of a letdown. The morning match up saw DC United fall two goals down (and a man, too) to Toronto FC as scored twice in the first half through Ayo Akinola. DC looked down and out, but they somehow would rescue a point in the dying stages.

The aging veteran Federico Higuain scored a classy chip after 84 minutes, and then Frederic Brillant headed home in stoppage time to give them a draw. There were issues after the game as well, showing just how much it meant to the two teams. In the first match of the nightcap, LAFC also made a stirring comeback of their own. Houston had taken a 3-1 lead into the half-time break (two goals coming from Memo Rodriguez and one from the impressive Alberth Elis). However, LAFC fought back with two goals in six second-half minutes to get it to 3-3. With all the momentum, they just couldn’t muster another goal, so the two sides shared the points in a wild encounter.
