MLS Is Back (yes that’s the tournament name, and yes it’s awful). And Wednesday night’s opener in the tournament didn’t let down too much. The first half was a bit of a letdown, but after almost four months of playing with nothing more than inter-squad scrimmages, you had to expect as much.
Inter Miami, in just its third-ever MLS match, took the lead just after half-time through Juan Agudelo. However, former Manchester United star Nani had other ideas for MLS’ return to action. His cross set up Chris Mueller’s equalizing goal in the 70th minute. And deep into extra time, he would turn scorer, giving Orlando City SC a 2-1 victory over Miami. The win not only gives them a group stage win, but it also gives them three points for the regular season as well, as MLS has adopted that model to encourage teams to try a bit harder.
